Matt came to Chico Grace Brethren in April of 2011. He’s glad to be back in his hometown.
He was senior pastor of the Orland Evangelical Free Church from 1999 to 2011. In 2001, he helped launch what became North Valley Christian Schools. Matt also helped start a residence for the elderly in 2002, WestHaven Assisted Living.
A violinist, Matt performs with the North State Symphony and appears regularly in the Bach Festival at CSU, Chico. He has written for Christian News Northwest and Discipleship Journal. Kregel published his first novel, Fallen (2008), and his book on evangelism, The Diversity Culture (2009). He blogs at Tritone Life, commenting on theology, the arts, and contemporary issues. He is working on a Ph.D. at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Christianity and the Arts.
Matt married his wife Bridget in 1992, and they have two boys, Dylan and Malcolm. They all enjoy hanging out at the coast, taking long walks, and watching Phineas and Ferb.
Chris grew up in Chico and graduated from Western Oregon University in 1998. He was a manager at ServiceMaster for twelve years helping people recover from flooding and fires in their homes. He came to Grace Brethren in 2011. He has written for alternative newspapers and Video Maker, and publishes his poetry on Tapping the Wall and madswirl.com. Chris and his wife Lori have two boys, Graham and Braeden, who love skating, biking, and basketball.
Heath was born in Chico and has called Paradise home for most of his life. He married his wife Megan in 2008 and they have two children together: their son Elias (2013) and daughter Charlie (2015). Heath graduated from CSU, Chico in 2003 with a degree in Media Arts and a certificate in Outdoor Education. He is currently pursuing his M.div at the Cornerstone Seminary in Vallejo and plans to graduate in the summer of 2017. He just recently hung up his hat as a chimney sweep after nearly 10 years to be able to work more hours at Chico Grace Brethren, serving as the Director of Christian education, overseeing children and youth ministries. Heath loves backpacking, rock climbing and mountaineering, photography, and fish tacos.
Laurie Mathers, Administrative Assistant
Laurie moved from the Los Angeles area to Chico in 1992. She became a member of Chico Grace Brethren in 2012 and joined our staff in 2014. She serves as a deaconess and loves studying the Bible. She has two adult children, a grandson, and many pets. She and her husband Paul share a love of writing, art, literature, and beauty.
